Carlsbad Caverns

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is in the Chihuahuan Desert of southern New Mexico and contains more than 100 caves. Adult tickets are $12 and children under 16 are free.

We arrived at Carlsbad Caverns at 8:30am to beat the crowds. The visitors center had ample amount of RV parking and we were the third RV to arrive.

There are two entrances to the cave. The first one is the with an elevator that descends you down to the Big Room where the walking trail is accessible to you. The second is via the Natural Entrance, which is a 1.25 mile walking trail containing several switchbacks descending into the Big Room, where one can see the large stalagmites and stalactites.

Unfortunately, due to the low-lighting inside the cave, we did not end up with too many photographs to share. We did walk the entire cave, seeing the Devils Spring, Devils Den, Iceberg Rock, Witch’s Finger, and the Twilight Zone.

We spent roughly 2 1/2 hours at the cave and left that day for Amarillo, Texas to visit our friends, Paul and Susan Roberson.
